Abstract
Introducción:
El proceso de envejecimiento se asocia con un declive de las diferentes capacidades físicas y la calidad de vida. Esto puede ser debido a una pérdida de la cantidad de masa muscular (sarcopenia), la pérdida de masa ósea (osteopenia) y la pérdida de la capacidad aeróbica, que entre otros factores, se ve agravado por la falta de actividad física y ejercicio físico que ocurre con el paso de la edad.
Los programas de entrenamiento basados en la mejora de la masa muscular y la fuerza tendrán un efecto positivo en la autonomía funcional del adulto mayor procurando una mejora de la calidad de vida. Este tipo de programas de entrenamiento para la fuerza y la masa muscular en personas mayores se convierte en una forma de prevenir la decadencia física asociada al incremento de la edad.
