Abstract
El fenómeno Olímpico es un campo amplio y rico para la investigación social que transciende lo puramente deportivo. Sin embargo, el Olimpismo moderno se conoce en gran medida por las grandes manifestaciones deportivas que se celebran en los Juegos Olímpicos. Se trata del acontecimiento social con mayor repercusión mundial, que traspasa la dimensión de espectáculo deportivo y posibilita el estudio de cuestiones culturales, filosóficas, educativas, económicas, sociales, ecológicas, urbanas etc. El impacto social de los Juegos Olímpicos genera opiniones críticas como la excesiva comercialización, el desarrollo del dopaje, los posibles elementos de fraude o de corrupción en el seno del Movimiento Olímpico.
