Abstract
En la postmodernidad se han producido cambios sustanciales en el periodismo como
consecuencia de la irrupción de las nuevas tecnologías, los efectos de la competencia y
la aparición de nuevas fórmulas de negocio, que están afectando a la profesión, hasta el
punto que el periodista del siglo XXI se ve abocado a desarrollar otras funciones para
las que necesita una preparación específica y permanente.
El objeto de este artículo es analizar los factores que han modificado el rol del
periodista y describir el nuevo perfil en la era digital a partir del Informe Anual de la
Profesión Periodística 2010 y trabajos de expertos.
Creemos que el periodista del futuro, además de ser un profesional versátil, multimedia,
hábil con las nuevas tecnologías, especializado y con aptitudes para trabajar en equipo;
precisa fundamentos periodísticos y deontológicos para hacer valer sus derechos ante
las empresas y su compromiso con la opinión pública.
