Abstract
En esta tesis se investiga el proceso del reequilibrio de la cuenta corriente, los costes derivados del proceso de ajuste, los determinantes de largo plazo que subyacen los movimientos del saldo en cuenta corriente y el desalineamiento del tipo de cambio real, en el contexto geográfico de la zona euro, donde conviven en su interior dos grupos de economías con diferentes características institucionales y desempeño macroeconómico –las economías del norte (ZEN) y las del sur (ZES)–.
La tesis está dividida en tres capítulos. El capítulo I trata sobre la existencia de dos grupos de economías en el interior de la eurozona; el primer grupo contiene a los países del norte, llamados países ZEN, que incluye a Alemania, Países Bajos, Luxemburgo, Austria, Finlandia, Bélgica y Francia; el segundo grupo incluye a los países del sur, denominado ZES, que incorpora a España, Grecia, Portugal, Irlanda e Italia.
