Abstract
Los trastornos hipertensivos del embarazo incluyen distintas entidades, pero clínicamente la preeclampsia (PE) es el desorden más relevante por sus consecuencias clínicas, complicando el 3 % de los embarazos La diferencia entre las distintas entidades que configuran las enfermedades hipertensivas de la gestación es esencial, pues la PE asocia importantes repercusiones perinatales y maternas. Clásicamente la PE se ha definido como la aparición de hipertensión y proteinuria en una gestante de más de 20 semanas. En los últimos años las nuevas clasificaciones amplían la definición de PE a la aparición de hipertensión más al menos uno de éstos: proteinuria, insuficiencia renal, alteración función hepática, complicaciones neurológicas, complicaciones hematológicas. La PE se clasifica según la edad gestacional de debut. La PE con debut anterior a la semana 34 se denomina PE precoz, frente a la que clínicamente comienza tras la semana 34, llamada PE tardía.
