Abstract
Este capítulo ofrece una reflexión epistemológica en torno al deterioro de las nociones de verdad y objetividad como fundamento de la autoridad institucional del periodismo, a partir de la cual se caracteriza el auge de la cultura de la verificación periodística como una de las enmiendas más sólidas al daño que la desinformación digital inflige en el debate público de las sociedades democráticas. Frente a los desórdenes informativos contemporáneos, esta vertiente de la especialización profesional despliega medidas correctivas y pedagógicas que sirven de complemento a las prudentes iniciativas regulatorias impulsadas por gobiernos y a las perfectibles soluciones tecnológicas que implantan las grandes corporaciones digitales.
