Origen y evolución del Colegio Jesuita de Caravaca

Abstract

El presente texto tiene como objeto principal profundizar sobre la historia de la Compañía de Jesús en la ciudad de Caravaca y como se produjo la construcción de uno de los Colegios más importantes de todo el Reino de Murcia. A lo largo del artículo podremos conocer como fue la llegada de la Compañía en 1565, el autor de la traza del Colegio y los que llevaron a cabo la construcción del edificio, la cronología del proceso constructivo, tanto del primero como del segundo de los Colegios de la Compañía que se construyeron en la ciudad, la organización espacial y funcional del inmueble que se conserva a día de hoy así como la evolución que ha sufrido el Colegio desde su uso como tal hasta la expulsión de los Jesuitas y los usos contemporáneos que han permitido que se mantenga su estructura original.

The main objective of this text is to delve into the history of the Company of Jesus in the city of Caravaca and how the construction of one of the most important schools in the entire Kingdom of Murcia took place. Throughout the article we will be able to learn about the arrival of the Company in 1565, the author of the layout of the College and those who carried out the construction of the building, the chronology of the construction process, both of the first and the second of the Colleges. of the Company that were built in the city, the spatial and functional organization of the building that is preserved today as well as the evolution that the College has undergone si, nce its use as such until the expulsion of the Jesuits and the contemporary uses that have allowed its original structure to be maintained.
